What tool or tools would folk suggest for this job?
I have the lyrics for 5000+ songs (they are Christian hymns, for use
in church). They are currently in a single text file like this:
[CH3-001] 1. All people that on earth do dwell,
[CH3-001] Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.
[CH3-001] Him serve with mirth, his praise forth tell,
[CH3-001] Come ye before him and rejoice.
<snip>
With such a large hymn base you might want to consider using a
specific worship projection software as cutting and pasting
from a large Impress or PPT file I would imagine to be slow.
There are two 'freebies' I know of, although I have not used either.
If I understand them, they keep the hymn versed in a text file,
and build the screen show (on the fly?) from a pick list.
OPENLP is an open source prog at http://sourceforge.net/projects/openlp/
Zionworx is free (shareware) at http://www.zionworx.org.uk/
The latter seems to be the popular one.
