Not sure about table and calendar formats from Word to OO, but if you couldn't open them directly in OO, go back to Word and save a copy As one of the "compatibility modes" (basically anything other than the default Word format, like an older version of Word); you may even have the option to save in as .odt. You may loose some of the formatting of the original document, but hopefully most of it will translate correctly. For a nice, but somewhat outdated migration overview see:
