I have noticed a peculiar phenomenon with OpenOffice.org.

If I have a number of documents open, minimise their windows to the
taskbar, and then launch, use and quit other applications, when the OOo
windows are restored, they do not refresh. (At the moment I have five
documents open, averaging about 35 pages each.) In fact, when you move
other windows around in front of them the other windows leave a pleasing
trail of moire patterns or fragments in the OOo windows. If the text
Navigator or Styles dialogue is open, dragging the mouse pointer over the
task bars causes the buttons (icons) to pop into being.

For example, I am writing this message in Lotus Notes. Restoring an OOo
document in front of Lotus Notes causes the Notes window's contents to be
copied into the content and taskbar area of the OOo window. Dragging the
pointer over the OOo taskbar causes buttons to appear but not drop-downs.
If I guess where a menu is (say, File) and click on it, the menu drops down
and, after a short time, the contents of the window refresh.

It is almost as though the Redraw event sent by Windows is ignored, but
when you initiate a Redraw from within OOo by hovering over a menu or
button, this is trapped and a refresh occurs.

So how do I stop this happening? The computer certainly has enough RAM and
swap space, and when I use other memory-hungry applications like
FrameMaker, with 20 or so files open, this problem does not occur.

Regards,
Hedley
