Hello,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"
/>

I resend this message (with some changes) because the version I sent yesterday
was quite hard to read.

Here are some of the conclusions I came to, about the migration of Microsoft
Word forms to OpenOffice.Org Writer 1.9.113, when these forms have only "Text",
"Drop-Down" and "Check Box" form fields created in Word with the "Forms
toolbar" (and not with the Control Toolbox toolbar"):

I - Word "Text Form Fields", when the "Type" is "Regular text", "Number" or
"Date", become Writer "Input Fields". This causes some important problems:

I - a) Some properties are lost, like "Type", "Maximum length" and "Format"
(for example: "Uppercase" or "Lowercase" for "Regular text"; "0,00" or "0%" for
"Number"). So, in Writer, you can type whatever you want with any format and
length inside an "Input Field", when you shouldn't, leading, for example, to
the opening of new lines and pages;

I - b) When you try to fill an "Input Field", a dialog is open. If you press
the "ENTER" key when you finish writing, you go to the next line in the dialog
instead of closing it. Moreover, some blank characters are added to your text
if you don't delete them. Perhaps a quicker way to fill these fields is to
press CTRL+SHIFT+F9 to open the first field in the document and, then, press
ALT+N to go to the next field;

II - Word "Text Form Fields", when the "Type" is "Current date", "Current time"
or "Calculation", become simple text;

III - Word "Drop-Down Form Fields" become Writer "Input Lists". To choose an
option the user must select it from a dialog and this is the only change I
detected;

IV - Word "Check Box Form Fields" become Writer "Check Box Form Controls".
However:

IV - a) If, in Word, check boxes size was increased from the default value,
they become smaller in Writer (3 check boxes of different sizes in Word have
the same size in Writer) and loose their alignment with text;

IV - b) If, in Word, check boxes where shaded, they become unshaded in Writer;

IV - c) Check boxes change from flat (in Word) to 3D (in Writer).

Some of these issues are pointed out at page 14 of the "OpenOffice.org
Migration Guide", from OOoAuthors, published 24 June 2005.

Now can you (or anyone else reading this message) answer the following
questions to help me solve these problems:

1 - What is the best way, in Writer, to change "Input Fields" into something
like Word "Text Form Fields"? Is it to use "Form Controls"?

1.1 - "Text Boxes" to limit text length?

1.2 - "Formatted Fields" (or perhaps "Numeric Fields"?) to force the use of
numbers?

1.3 - "Date Fields", "Time Fields", "Currency Fields"?

2 - How do I align "Form Controls" (like "Text Boxes" or "Check Boxes") with
the text in the middle of which they are inserted?

3 - About "Check Boxes", how do I:

3.1 - Change their size ("Position and Size" command seems not to work);

3.2 - Shade them ("Background color" command seems not to work too);

Now about the message Wawrzecki Tomasz sent to me July 14, 2005 11:15 AM:

Although I understood the main idea of your answer ("migration doesn't work"),
I would like to know:

- Do the "mistakes" your "migration generated" match the ones I list above?

- What do you mean exactly by "forms (in MS WORD) without any active x
elements"?

About forms, OpenOffice.org 1.9.113 is better than 1.1.4 at least in one thing:
check boxes don't just disappear in Write when they are created in Word with
the "Forms" toolbar...

Thanks in advance for your help and patience to read this long e-mail.

I use oo 1.1.4 and this kind of migration doesn't work.

I have some forms (in MS WORD) without any active x elements but migration

generate so many mistakes that I decided to create forms in Oo from base.

Subject: Documentation for Forms migration

Hello,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =

"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I am going to migrate forms created in "Microsoft Word" to "OpenOffice.org

Writer".

Can anyone suggest documentation about:

* How to create forms not linked to a database in "OpenOffice.org

Writer" (beyond "OpenOffice.org Help");

* Issues with forms created in "Microsoft Word", when imported in

"OpenOffice.org Writer", and workarounds for those issues (some of them are

pointed out at page 14 of the "OpenOffice.org Migration Guide", from

OOoAuthors, published 24 June 2005).

Thanks in advance for your help.
