I wrote recently about how I get a dialog box 24 times when I try to start the
database. The dislog box is telling me that the java has a problem. I got a
response to install a new java.
My question that went unanswered was: why does calc and writer work of, but
not data? Does it use a different java rte? (unlikely).
It may require a newer Java RTE, which is not altogether the same thing,
or it may be that you have never used the portions of Calc and Writer
that require any Java at all; there aren't many.
A question that arose from the response: How do I determine the version of
java that I have installaed, and which version does oo 1.9 require?
In OOo, go to Options and pick the Java section, which is in the first
group ("OpenOffice.org"); wait a few seconds for it to fill in. That
will tell you all the Java RTE's that OOo can find (which /ought/ to be
all the ones you have installed).
As far as I know, OOo requires at least 1.3.1 (which is over four years
old). The current version is 1.5.0.
I'll save my "how do I install a new java" for the next round.
That depends on what operating system you are using.
