So, will 2.0 be worth the wait or should I just download 1.14 now?
My $.02, I use the latest 2.0 beta on a Linux box, and have never had
any problems. This is on my business workstation and laptop, it is
important that it just works. I like it much better than the 1.x
series, of course, YMMV :-)
Agreed.
I've also been using 2.0 beta (1.9.79.2.3) and have stuck with it. I've had
a few crashes and, on one occasion the recovery didn't work properly - my
fault I think - and lost a fortnight's entries on one file. I'd been
relying on autosave and OOo's backup copies and found to my cost that
neither seemed to have worked. Since then I've saved by hand frequently.

The 1.9.79 beta candidate is very old. A few months ago when all the
linux distros were getting the 2.8.xx kernel packages ready, it was
expected to be really close to the final product and was thus included
in the applications. I just upgraded to SuSE 9.3 and the first thing I
did was update OOo to m118. No lockups, no lost data, no problems. You
might want to consider doing the same.
