[users] Cell format (Date) setting won't take

OpenOffice.org (Linux) 1.1.4: In Calc, when I change the date format to 
MM/DD, and enter a date (e.g. 8-30), the cell shows it in MM/DD/YY 
format.  I look back at the cell format setup, and see the format is 
supposed to be MM/DD for that cell.  How can I fix this?
