I've just tried it on my version of 1.9.125 (on winXP) and have found that after creating a hyperlink to some text, the hyper link can be removed by selecting the text and selecting ctrl+shift+spacebar... This combination reapplies the default formatting and successfully removes the address of the hyperlink.
