OpenOffice is the free, volunteer supported version of StarOffice.
I've observed that OpenOffice does tend to lead a little with features
over StarOffice (my opinion).

StarOffice 5.1 is an old release, and should be upgraded.

You have a choice between stable version and beta versions of
OpenOffice. The official reccomendation is to chose the stable
version, at there are a lot of changes in version "2" For instance a
lot of work has gone into improving the user interface and MS Office
compatibility.

A lot of folks are using OpenOffice Beta 2 (including myself), but the
documentation for it seems to be an area that is pretty good, but
admittedly a work in progress (especially for tools like the database
program).

Either should work under Windows ME.

The stable version is called OpenOffice 1.1.5RC
The latest beta version is called OpenOffice 2.0, beta 2

Either can be gotten (these are big files) from openoffice.org

I hope this helps.
