I'm construction designer in architectural bureau, we have no problems using OO.o for a long years. You should look at your primary design applications, maybe they have strong dependencies against MS Office (like MDT - Excel or smthng). In opposite case there should be no difficulties. These dependencies are usually very stupid, because eg.
