I own some documents made up using the word processor part of the
Microsoft works package. I no longer own that package and I am looking for
a program that will allow me to view and edit these documents. Would your
program allow me to do this?
Also, is it compatible with Microsoft publisher?

Unfortunately no -- format of Microsoft Works is something even more weird
than other Microsoft formats, so no other program (free or proprietary,
even other Microsoft programs) have importing capabilities for it. Sorry,
you have to find some copy of M$ Works and export to some other format
which is supported (RTF or Microsoft Word would do). The same goes, I am
afraid, for M$ Publisher.

Once you've converted files to Word, you can open them with OpenOffice.

For Publisher there are also some tricks; if i remember correctly by converting first to pdf and then to Word or by converting to html.
