This would explain the behaviour I'm seeing. I can see the problem if there 
are a lot of languages installed and a search is made of them all (a word 
could occur in more than one of course), and I'm not sure what the right 
thing would be. If the base language is English (of any variety), and a 
foreign word is included as a quote or for literary effect, then a quick way 
of converting that word would be useful, if rather rare. Perhaps it would be 
sufficient to have a menu item that led to a dialog to change the language, 
showing all the known dictionaries. It would be a little slower than now 
perhaps, but not much.
