I use Mepis Linux on my systems, which, once installed, is pretty much
Debian.
Often I need to cut and paste Greek text from the BibleTime application
into OpenOffice.org writer, where my needs require me to mix the Greek
text with English. This worked fine prior to the introduction of OOo2.0
into Debian. Even then, one could paste Greek text cut from BibleTime
into OpenOffice 1.1.x. However, pasting into OOo2.0 results in nothing
but a series of question marks instead of Greek letters. This is true of
the working builds of 2.0, the .rpm version of 2.0, and the version of
2.0 that is currently in the repositories.
Now that 1.1.4 is not in the repositories, my solution has been to paste
into KWord, save as an .odt, and then open the file in 2.0. When this is
done, 2.0 displays both Greek and English correctly. It is also possible
to paste into Abiword successfully and then save and open in OOo 2.0.
I recall that this problem existed a few years back in several versions
of Mandrake - one couldn't paste Greek text successfully even into OOo
1.x. During the same time frame, RedHat/Fedora Core worked fine. I was
never able to get anyone to provide an explanation or fix for the issue
in Mandrake.
Does anyone know what the actual issue is, and (hopefully) how to fix
it? Using an intermediate application is awkward, time-consuming, and
just not very elegant.
