Please open a shell and post the results of a "uname -a" command, some of us arent't familiar with Xandros. >I'm running an HP laserjet 1100 quite succesfully with thunderbird and >firefox but when I try to print something from Openoffice (writer) it >doesn't go thru, and then sometimes when I restart the computer it > print the docs I was trying to print before? > >I'm pretty positive there's a switch somewhere I need to change but I >cant seem to find it > >Any help would be appreciated Open Office 1.1 > The 1.1? Thats quite old & positively grey haired now, maybe even beginning to suffer from the same thing that I've been known to blame mistakes on, Oldtimers. Have you run spadmin to configure OOo's printer choices since updateing something like cups? It may be that an update to 2.01 (they install in parallel via using a different directory) will fix things if you also exec the newer spadmin and wait for it to scan the system and register all the printers. For some reason this takes at least a minute plus a mouse click action to refresh the view. Then you can choose the printer you want to use for most projects. Assuming cups and its dependencies is installed, configured correctly and reasonably currant of course. Gimp-print, or its new name, gutenprint is a good choice for the driver cups uses. I also say choose among the printers because cups can define the same mechanical printer as many different printers, each with a different operating profile that you can fine-tune for particular jobs. You wouldn't want to send a text document to a profile that does full color at 1440x1400 since thats around 12-16 minutes a page at full photographic quality when it can also do 2+ pages a minute at 360x360 full color which still does a decent job on the gfx in the page sent. I have an Epson C82 as 4 printers, lp0 thru lp3. I hope this helps. -- Cheers, Gene People having trouble with vz bouncing email to me should add the word 'online' between the 'verizon', and the dot which bypasses vz's stupid bounce rules. I do use spamassassin too. :-) Yahoo.com and AOL/TW attorneys please note, additions to the above message by Gene Heskett are: Copyright 2006 by Maurice Eugene Heskett, all rights reserved. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
