It helps people to help you if you tell us what system you're using
(Windows, Mac, Linux etc).

One thing that I do when I'm on an unfamiliar system and forget to pay
attention, is to go through the motions of downloading another (small)
file from somewhere, and look out for any clues for where the browser
tries to put it. This is often the quickest way. For example, most
browsers remember the previous folder that you used to store a download.
Others, and Windows may be one of them, always default to a pre
configured user folder with some alias, like "My Documents" or "My
Downloads". This usually appears in a filebrowser dialog at some point
during the download. By opening the location listbox at this point, you
see the tree view of that location.

Otherwise, as suggested, use the "Find File" (by name) feature of the
system. If you've forgotten the filename, go back to the download site
and check the URL or descriptions for clues.

For example, the download file for the Windows version of OOo 2.0.1 is
named:

OOo_2.0.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE.exe

On Windows I think you can go "Start - Find"

Regards.
