[users] OO cannot find JRE on MacBook

When I try to set the JRE to /System/Libraries/JavaVM.framework/ 
Versions/1.4.2/Home I get an error message that it doesn't contain a  
valid jre. This is true no matter which java version I point to.

MacOSX 10.4.5 Macbook Intel DualCore.
Pointing to the same location on my Desktop G5 works fine.

Ideas?
