I'm not sure I understand what your problem is. Many times I have
worked on a file and then closed it. If I do not save it prior to closing
it, I am asked if I want to save it. I simply click No, and any work done
after my last save is not in the file when I open that file again.
There is another way to do what you may want without having to close
the file at all. Use Edit > Changes > Record to keep track of all the
changes made to the document. If you want to see what changes you have
made, use Edit > Changes > Show. Edit > Changes > Accept or Reject allows
you at any time to accept of reject any changes you made. Search Help for
this feature: enter "changes" (without the quotes) in the search box for
help.
