Your crash sounds weird. Do any other applications crash unexpectedly ?

Also you can change the language on ever character in your document by 
selecting the characters/words/paragraphs and then "Format" -> "Characters" ->
"Font" -> Language. Doing this should mean that the correct dictionary is 
used.
