You might find that it is a printer driver problem, I use an HP 7310
in my office, and could not figure out why I was using so much
colored ink -- until I ran out of magenta -- all of a sudden all my
text was green.
I spoke with HP tech support who suggested that I replace the GIMP
print driver I was using with the HP all-in-one 2.1 driver -- problem
solved. I had avoided installing the HP software that came with the
printer because of all the other stuff they seem to think I wanted --
if you are using an HP product you can now download just the drivers
rather than having to deal with all rest of the stuff.

Try File > Print > Options > Print black.

Tried that, thanks for the guess. Nope, printout is still blueish.
I also tested X11-preferences (on the Mac, OOO X11 is started
first, than OpenOffice), where you can select Output colors -> from
display, 256, thousands, millions. All of these gave the same
result: black font on screen, blueish printout. After export to
PDF, black font is printed black.
[ a little later...]
I now found its an X11 problem. Printing from an X11 terminal out
of emacs for instance also results in blueish printing. Will dig
deeper soon......
