I thinkI have a problem involving illegal MS
interference installing OOO 2.0.0

Here is the situation:

Modern 2.2ghz Laptop with Multiple Partition HD,
w98se, w2kPro, XP Media Center Edition 2005 -and
several flavors of Linux.

OO works fine on everything (with only 1.X onthe W98)

EXCEPT the (brand new) virgin install of WinXP. This
is my third install, with the same results:

When attempting to start the (expaned) OO 2.0.0
installer, "Windows Installer" begins, there is a long
LONG LONG pause, after which I get a notice: "The
Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This
can occur if (yada yada yada, none of which apply to
me)..."

The reason I KNOW this is specific only to OO is
because the "Windows Installer Service" apparently has
no problem with "access" when it comes to ANYTHING
else that I have installed!

Now, it would seem logical that something is really
wrong with my install, rather than get paranoid. So I
even installed the "Windows Installer 3.1" program
direct from MS, to eliminate that possibility. Still
get the same results... cannot access the WIS, -just
for OO 2.0

Now, am I being over paranoid about the (complete
utter) lack of trust I have in MS, and belief that
they would do anything to halt an open source app?

The XP is NOT really important to me for Office Apps.
I only use it for editing DVD-Ram movies because
nothing else works with my movie cam. It never has
(nor ever will) see the internet. No trust, no keys...
But it really irritates me that some XP users who do
not have multiple-OS options, may be turned away from
OO. So I really want to resolve this. I caught MS' tit
once, and provided evidence for the 97-99 DOJ suit. I
am hoping I found another "MS-malice" case here, so I
can take another bite out of Bill's hiney...

So please, let me know if this is unique, or there is
a frequent cause/solution. I write software (did) for
Apple so I am no fool. I can take any cues you are
kind enough to provide.

The only thing I cannot do is "hook up with the OO
mailing list" as the RTFM suggests. I am on a project
in Thailand, and have to use my secretary's mailbox. So
I hope you can just simply send a reply here:
