Subject: [users] Default template reset on restart
Date: Tue, 06 Jun 2006 23:08:53 -0500

Hi:

I'm writing to let you know about a problem I was having with setting the default template and how I solved it, in case others are having the same problem. I am using OO 2.0.2 on winxp, and whenever I attempted to set my own template as the default (following the instructions found in the FAQ and in several messages in the archives of this newsgroup) it would work only until I restarted my computer, after which my custom template would no longer be the default.

I was able to fix this by changing the default path for templates (under Tools -- Options -- OpenOffice.org -- paths). As originally configured, there were two paths for templates, the first one being in a subdirectory of "Program Files" and the second one being in a subdirectory of "Documents and Settings". When I deleted the first one of these paths, my problem went away.

All this may have been mentioned in some previous message, but I could not find it in the archives. It solved a big problem for me (for starters, allowing me to set the default page margins), and I hope it is helpful for others.

Dan
