Assuming you mean MS Office XP, WordPerfect, and OpenOffice.org 2.x,
here are compatibilities:
1) MSOffice XP (11), is mostly compatible with OpenOffice.org in that
OpenOffice.org will read and write MSO's file formats, and supports most
of MSO's features. There will be minor formatting problems in
interchanging documents in the two suites, but nothing you could not
re-work easily. OpenOffice.org has a read filter for WordPerfect's word
processing documents. I have not personally ever used it, so cannot
vouch for its quality.
2) Neither MSOffice nor WordPerfect can read OpenOffice.org's native
file formats.
3) OpenOffice.org cannot execute macros written for any other suite, and
vice versa.
4) The file formats used by MS are proprietary and secret.
OpenOffice.org's filters for them are not perfect, but are very good,
and improving constantly.
