Just to clarify - I have used the British English version of Open Office for about 18 months now. When I was advised that 2.0.3 was available for download I could find no reference to a choice of British English, and know that this is registered as a desirable change. I tried downloading 2.0.3 and found that the language settings remained Brisitsh, so I am content.

Not sure what you are saying. I know that you have used the download to
upgrade but I suggest you have a look at
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=55920 and see if this
is what is impacting you. If yes, then Install the language pack from
http://oootranslation.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/ or try
File > Wizards > Install new dictionaries
