Thanks a lot! This ean13.ttf seems to be broken - when I install it in
windows\fonts and see the result in either Writer or Word it produces
identical bars for every digit I type, no matter what it is.
Any idea how to get in touch with the author (I could not find his
address on his pages or in his app)?
I assure you it works - I don't see identical bars. I'll send you a
screenshot privately as an attachment for you to see. I also just typed
in the code that I found on the back of a book and the bars in the
spreadsheet demo look the same.
Did you download the sample Calc spreadsheet too that contains the
macro? Just to be sure, the bars you refer to as being the same are the
ones in column C? Column A contains the 12 digit number that you want
to encode (works as either text or numeric cell), and column B is the
encoded character sequence shown in a normal text font, and column C is
that same encoded sequence displayed using the EAN13 font in 30 point size.
I do notice that if you try to display the unencoded number in column A
using the EAN13 font you could very well think that all the bars are the
same.

Thanks a lot.

I also found this site, which explains the encoding and
provides macros for OOo and a free EAN13.ttf font download
created by the web page author.
