To the initiator of this thread ....
So, you work for M$, do you? ... or are you just an M$ troll for some other
idealistic reason?
I realise my use of the word: "idealistic" is inappropriate as there is no
idealism in Microsoft, other than that of making as much money out of the
Internet community as possible. Having said that, I have no problem with
people making a reasonable return on their efforts and productivity, or even
setting up a passive income stream, but Microsoft is exploiting their
opportunity for all they can get in an essentially non-competitive market
place. Also, Bill Gate has, after all, recently announced that he is
entering into a philanthropic mode. However, the only real interest the
Microsoft Corporation has in the Internet community is in how to get more
dollars out of it.
On the other hand, Open Office is genuinely concerned with helping all
members of the Internet community, rich or poor, to get the most out of
their computers, and there are many other open source software groups with
similar aims.
You may well say "Long live Bill Gates", and he may well do so, but
Microsoft's days at the top are numbered. The corporation will be around
for a while yet, but once the public is educated in the ways of Linux, Open
Office, AVG, The Gimp, and so on, who will want to spend many hundreds of
dollars on an M$ office suite running under M$ Windows, especially when none
of their mates have the same M$ software?
I note that you are "pop.tele2.fr"
I also note that everyone who replied to you has a real name or nickname.
This suggests to me that you wish to remain anonymous because you are a
troll, and that the respondents are happy to be identified because they are
people of integrity.
However badly your gripe was put, there is always something to be learned in
among the rubbish and we will look into the "icon on the desktop"
suggestion.
Regards, James

Subject: [users] Long live Bill Gates!
I installed OpenOffice two hours ago. Most applications install an icon on
the desk at the same time so that the user can easily launch the program.
But not OpenOffice. Most applications have a file with an icon and/or an
understandable name that makes it easy to create an icon on the desk. But
not OpenOffice. After wasting two hours in vain, I uninstalled OpenOffice,
won't install it again this century, thought of the tens of thousands of
people who won't even have the chance to try OpenOffice, and finally
decided to buy a few Microsoft shares.
