Last INDEPENDANT source of information about
Anti-Virus software stated that AVG was an overall better
choice than all but the most expensive corporate AV's
But everyone has their own opinions to the best software
for whatever the need
Even Open office has people who think it is a bad solution,
and many say that it is the best. That is up to your own choice.
Best is to find independant sources to find out what is best

good free version. The free and pay for antivirus software are in two
different categories. Try getting the newest version of all of the
software
and reinstalling them. Start with the av. Mcafee is a resource hog.

Problems with AVG????
Been using AVG on laptop and desktops for years
Win 98, XP home, and Pro
Never had the problem(s) you are having is very strange.
I have been using Open Office since the earlist version
and have no problem with AVG or Open Office.
Just for the record
I have been told by the "experts"
that AVG is better at finding virus and other problems
then McAfee or Nortins, and its free as well.

I downloaded AVG before but it was a big disappointment. The AVG is very
intrusive, taking over the control of my PC. My computer ran very slow,
so
many prompts and messages would pop up, and would not allow all of my
programs to work. This McAfee VirusScan 7.0 that I have now seems to be
a
marvel. However, like anything else, it probably is not perfect also.
So
I'll contact McAfee again but this will require a lot of effort and time
on
my part. I tried downloading McAfee's VirusScan Updates in the hope that
this will resolve the problem however my VirusScan locked up in the
middle
of the download process. Therefore nothing was downloaded as a result.
So
maybe there is something wrong with the McAfee system. Thanks for the
advice.

I removed OpenOffice.org from my PC the previous evening. Now my
computer
seems to operate flawlessly. But I'll check out how it will perform at
startups, restarts, and shutdowns.

Sorry we cannot help. OpenOffice.org works correctly. It is your virus
scanning software that does not work correctly.
there are several other free virus scanning packages (AVG I think)
whoich
may
work better for you.
