OO can read, but not write, Word Perfect files. However, StarOffice,
the commercial version of OO can write them as well.

But only on Windows, as far as I can tell. OOo-2.0.3-7 and StarOffice-8.0.3-7 running on linux here show no import or export filters for Word Perfect documents.

What's the WPS import filter for?

Beats me. I don't have one.

Unless I'm mistaken (yes, that has actually happened a couple of times.
;-) ), it's for importing Word Perfect files. I haven't tried it
though. I'm surprised you don't have such a filter.

Possible install option?

When I first installed Word on a Windows machine years ago, none of the import filters for Wordperfect were installed by default. Most of the files I had were WP related so I was SOL.

Installing the filters were a pain as we had different versions of our corporate Office that couldn't install from just any CD.
