Installed OO 2.0.4 on Windows XP Professional X64 Edition
Version 5.2 (Build 3790.srv03_sp1_gdr.060315-1609: Service Pack 1)
Not sure of what's happening here but, for example the default install does
not spell check correctly. Are there known problem with this build of OO
on this operating system? Is there a topic thread you can point me to
please, I'm new to OO. Build on my NT machine went perfectly, and also
seems to work flawlessly on my 32-bit XP system.

In what sense does it not spell check correctly? Have you downloaded the right
dictionaries for your languages?

Here is a brief guide to Languages in OpenOffice...

Thanks for the advice. This is exactly where I was going wrong.
After dowloading the right dictionary and changing the settings,
everything worked properly. Sorry for barking up the wrong tree
in this case, but the X64 nature of the operating system has been
the source of the problem so often with other software in the past
it can become a knee jerk reaction to assume this is the case!

After trying another test install on a pure 32-bit cpu with a 32-bit XP
and running into exactly the same problem as with the X64 I dug a bit
more and finally realized the dictionary setting and lack of requested
dictionary were the source of my problem.

For the builders: To avoid potential confusion on the part of the user,
it might be a better idea not to allow writer to set the default dictionary
to a type that is not already resident, or to alert the user that
the desired default configuration is not resident yet and point to download info.

Thanks for the promt reply!

...and thanks for a great product. After seeing several people use OO
and goading one person at work into using it because MS Word was
literally crashing his machine by just printing a very simply .doc file,
and then seeing that some LaTeX work was taking place in OO 2.0.4,
I couldn't help myself and loaded it up on all of my machines.
