Word, as we know, allows one to vary the language against which the one used in the current document is checked (for both spelling and grammar) from the toolbar, which is much less cumbersome than changing the default setting via the path Tools>Options>... described my James McKenzie. It would seem that no such feature exists in OOo (at least I've not been been able to find one). This would be an excellent thing to add in the next revision of the programme, as there are quite a lot of people - users or prospective users of OOo - who frequently need to write documents in several different languages. In the meantime, Firefox's spell checker is very useful....
