My experience is like yours.  In fact, I found your post by Googling
"javaldx failed."  OO 2.0.4 had been working on my Intel-based IMac until I
installed the X11 update, so I think that update is looking suspicious.  My
error message is:
 
javaldx failed. User must select a JRE from options dialog!sh: line 1:
crash_report: command not found

I wonder what options dialog.
