Your Mac comes with the appropriate software to restart a broken
download. The program is called Curl and will restart your download from
the point that the download stopped.  I don't remember the exact syntax
for doing so, but I have used this program to restart many a broken
download.

Maybe someone else on this list has this information.

Also, I have provided a direct copy of this message as you are not
