First of all, you seem to have a misconception. File > Send >
Document or one of the Email as ... has nothing to do with the Mail
Merge process. These are two different processes.
When you use one of the File > Send processes, Outlook Express is
suppose to open with your document listed as an attachment. You then
add the address of whom you are sending it to. When you click the
Send button, Outlook Express sends the email. (The use of Outlook
Express in the paragraph is because Ken uses that email client on Win
98 SE.)
Mail Merge uses its own email process to send the email directly
to the designated address or addresses. That is why you need to fill
in the information in the Mail Merge Email section. (Tools > Options
> OpenOffice.org Writer > Main Merge Email.)
It sounds to me like Outlook Express (OE) is not your default
email client. You might want to open OE to see if you can make it
your default email client again. The Help in OE should tell you how
to do this. If you can get this done, restart the computer. Then see
if you can use File > Send ... to email a document.
If you want more information on Mail Merge, download the Mail
Merge chapter (chapter 11) of the Writer Guide. Get it from:
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/. (There may
be some other chapters on that page which may interest you.)
