I had similar trouble under 10.4.x already installed on the new MacBook that I just bought.

On my first try, I noticed within the Apple Install Disk 1 a folder at the main level, which contained an X11 install package. So I double-clicked on that and it looked like it installed *something* but did not install what was required.

When I looked inside my Applications/Utilities folder there was no X11.

I believe that folder on the main level of the Install disk is misleading. What I required to do was to select to "Install" Mac OS X and then, when given the choice, to click the "Custom" button, then to select the X11 checkbox and deselect all the other, default component checkboxes. It took quite a while for the installer to verify that my DVD was undamaged and then did the install without problems.

I was then able to run the already-installed OpenOffice.

Hello,

I am experiencing some problems in installing openoffice in mac OS 10.4.

What happens is that when I begin the installation process, a message
appears telling me that openoffice cannot be started since x11 isn't
installed. Still, I am absolutely sure it is indeed installed...

What can I do to solve this problem??

Best regards,

John
