I believe you have to associate the ODT with Openoffice. Click on the file in the finder and hit APPLE I that will bring up the info window. There should be an "open with" section, open that up and select open office. Also in that section there's a button that says "do this for all" or similar. That should do it. (sorry, I'm not on a Mac right now and it may be a little different)
