to whom it may concern,
I have been poking around your site looking for a page that says what software is compatible with Base. I am currently using an old version of FileMaker and would like to try out your Base program. I just can't seem to find out if your program will open my FileMaker files.

Is there such a page that has pertinent info? If not, can someone answer my question.

thanks, and great work on this project,

JP

I did some looking and I see suggestions about using ODBC or JDBC but there don't seem to be any follow up emails about that.

If you check out
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=126756
and
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=126827
you will see suggestions about exporting your FMP database as a dBase database.

Having said that and having just finished updating the Base chapter of the User Guide, here is a list of the existing database types you can connect to: Adabas, JDBC, ODBC, dBase, ADO, Text, Spreadsheet.

I haven't done any work on this myself since I don't have any FMP databases around any more but I hope it helps.

I've gotten ODBC to work with FMP 4 files (and 5-6 as well, I believe). But you won't be able to open them directly. Too many issues with how "coding" is done in the two applications, formulas, scripts, finds vs queries, etc etc.
