Yes. You can open MS Office files with OpenOffice (Word, Excel,
Powerpoint), but MS Office does not open OpenOffice files. The best
thing to do if you use OpenOffice and wish to send documents to people
who only use MS Office is to save or at least to send them as MS Office
files (with Open Office, you can also save the files in MS Office format).
Very complex files are not perfectly converted between OpenOffice and MS
Office.
