OOo 2.0.4 on Ubuntu Edgy amd64

I have MS Access 2000 running on this computer with Crossover Office. I
opened a large database file in Access and selected different records
to make three new tables. Then I exported each table as a separate file
to make it easier to merge into an OOo Writer document. I tried several
formats for the exported tables, but OOo was unable to see any of them
(ODBC, dBase III, Paradox). Finally, I exported as comma separated text
files (comma for the fields and double quote for text delimiters). I
figured that surely OOo could read a bog standard CSV file, but
apparently I was wrong.

I think Writer might be able to deal with these files, but somehow I am
supposed to register them first or something. I opened the database
window with F4, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make a
new database connection. I opened the Help file, but I can't find the
instructions for how to use the database window (F4).

I also tried Exchange Database, but when I browsed to the folder where
the .csv files are located, it sees nothing in the folder, even when
All Files is selected (and there are other files in the folder as well).

I tried opening a new Base document, then Open an Existing Database
file. It sees the .csv file, but after I open it Base cannot see the
table or the data.

I also tried opening a new Base document, then Connect to an Existing
Database, but that also failed.

The only thing that works is Create a New Database. I did that,
thinking that then I could import the CSV data. However, there is
apparently no way to import data to a new database.

I'm at the end of my wits. I remember doing this years ago in MS Office
2000 -- as soon as Word saw the .csv file it recognized the field and
text delimiters and happily merged in the data. It can't be this
difficult. I must be missing some fundamental concept here.

I must deliver the documents to the customer by 9 am Monday. Can
someone please tell me how to merge CSV data into a Writer document?
