Hi,
You can however download a converter to convert docx files to other
formats that OpenOffice can read. Try a google search for docx
converters. There are plenty of free ones.

Even the latest version of OOo (2.1) does not open the new MS formats
natively. The import/export filters are being worked on and they will
be in future releases of OOo.
You should really upgrade to 2.1 - you'll notice alot of changes.
