You do not have to pay to download OpenOffice, though donations are
appreciated.  To download, go to www.openoffice.org.  This is the
official OpenOffice site.  As you download, you'll see a link for
donations.  There are apparently some people who charge just to
download, but there's no need to use them as the above link is all you
need.  There are also some who will sell a CD of the software and
they're useful, if you don't have a broadband internet connection.  Then
again, while some charge a nominal amount for the disk, others charge a lot.
