Well, for starters, time how long it takes for XP to respond to mouse
clicks after booting.  On my work computer, after logging in, I have
some coffee and read the paper, while waiting for the computer to allow
me to do something.  In contrast, when you see an icon appear on the
desktop, it will start, though it may have to wait for the system to
come up.
