Is there a (non-macro) way to generate fill series skipping every

That is I want result to be like "1, blank, 3, blank, 5, blank, 7".
Joe Conner's *good* reply misses two things: you need "A1+2", not
"A1+1" to achieve what you ask (trivial), and it leaves you with
formulae rather than constants.
Try this:
o Enter "1" in A1.
o Enter "=A1+2" in A3.
o Select A2 and A3 together.
o Drag the fill handle (the small square at the bottom right of the
selection) as far down the column as you wish.
This may suffice, but if you now change any of the values, all the
values below will change in consequence. If you want to be able to
change individual values without this happening, you need to freeze
the values you have created. To do this:
o Select the cells you wish to freeze.
o Copy the cells (Edit | Copy or right-click | Copy or Ctrl+C).
o With the cells still selected, copy the contents back, but use
"Paste Special", not "Paste" (Edit | Paste Special... or right-click
| Paste Special...).
o In the Paste Special dialogue box, under "Selection", remove the
tick from "Paste All" if necessary. Then make sure Numbers is ticked
and Formulae is *not* ticked. Select OK.
