Did more work through the Indian night....un-installed the OOo2.2 RPM's, uninstalled the JRE. Downloaded the OOo2.2 RMP which do not contain the JRE. Installed only the OOo RPM's. Works like a charm, using Java 1.5.0_08. If I install JRE, things become difficult - to begin with, the JRE refuses to install, saying that OOo2.2 depends on the Java 1.5.0_08, and that it does not want to install. So, uninstall OOo2.2, try to install JRE. Kabooom. Errors all over the place. I got totally sick of that, and decided to go sleep. Woke up a few hours ago. Let me see if I can give it another go......
