I have installed Open Office 2.1 on a
PII 400 Mhz with 512 RAM - Win 98 and Win 2000 pro
P4 733 Mhz with 512 RAM - Win 98 and Win XP Home

Since a PII 400 Mhz machine was over 10 years old
running Windows 98, You should be able to use it on
your machine, BUT how fast the program runs can
be a problem.  The slower the machine, the slower
the program will work.

If you have a really slow machine AND do not need all
the newest features, you can use the older version of
1.x and it would work fine.  I keep a copy of the older
version just in case I need it.  Also if you do not
need the features that need Java's JRE, then do not
install it.  The use of the JRE with OpenOffice will
need more CPU processing than OpenOffice
without JRE.
