A Microsoft Works import filter has been developed, and will likely be added to a future release of OpenOffice. For everyone's reference, adding a .wps file filter was tracked under issue 8938. http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=8938

... so there was made progress regarding this? ->

Regarding the legal aspects... I haven't heard or seen anything yet beyond what is reported in the issue on Issuezilla. The lawyers are slow... but there are a lot of things to check on. The last message on this (that is included here) was sent only a couple weeks ago. Lawyers never work that quickly :-)

Issue #8938
import/export filters for Microsoft Works (.wdb, .wps and .wks)
Status: RESOLVED Resolution: FIXED

That was the coding part.
What still is missing is the legal part. This new filter uses an
external libary called libwps. We still have to clarify whether OOo can use this library as it is provided. So now we're in the hand of the lawyers...
