Hi Marleen,
Are you referring to space used on your hard drive? If so, you should know that all versions of Vista have feature like system restore, called 'previous versions', that backs up every file that is modified or deleted in hidden disk space. In the basic version, the option to use these files is disabled. Both 'previous versions' and 'system restore' are turned on and off together. The only way to free up the disk space is to turn both off. This will delete all the backed up data and the restore points as well.
