Nice idea, tanks, but when I try it, the captioned word is all out of 
alignment - drifts above the line of text in various ways depending on 
the choice of 'alignment'.  Also, the font and all other attributes for 
the caption won't follow the main text with this method. The idea 
really was to have a uniform line of text, with a space above into 
which the pictures could be put, while remaining lined up with "their" 
words.

One respondent has suggested just using "anchor /as/ character". Again, 
wrong visual effect - I don't want the character /in/ the line, but 
above, with no space within the line reserved for it.

Just a aside now, but if "anchor /to/ character" doesn't do what I'm 
expecting, what exactly is it supposed to do?????
