I find it impossible to print with cups from openoffice.org-2.2.1 or from Gimp2
I am using FreeBSD 6.2, cups-base 1.2.12, Xerox Phaser 8200DP on LAN.
lpstat -p -d shows the printer as the default printer.
I can print a test page from the web interface at port 631 but I CAN NOT PRINT FROM OOo. I have tried about every imaginable permission in the cupsd.conf file and have tried about every imaginable command for the printer under spadmin but nothing whatsoever happens when I try a test page. And there are no log entries under cups for the times of trial. I see that there are quite a few cups and openoffice printing problems on the web but I have yet to find a viable solution. Does anyone know where to look for help? Obviously, if I can't print from the program, the program is useless. Could there be an SSL problem? SSL is installed, but I don't use it as I am only on a LAN. If SSL were a problem, it seems to me that the web interface would not work as it requires and https connection. Is there some other program that needs to be installed for cups to work with OpenOffice (and Gimp) ? I wouldn't think so as it worked in a previous installation without the extra gutenprint and ghostscript programs which, I believe, are only printer driver suppliers (and do not include a driver for the Phaser). The cups documentation advises to not use lpd; so, what is left? lp or lpr - and they don't work either with or without -P "printer_name"
Ping "printer_name" responds correctly...
running CUPS_DEBUG_LEVEL=2 ; /usr/local/libexec/cups/backend/snmp 2>&1 | tee snmp.log spews out the correct printer info and location.
Am I missing something like setting up some kind of users and/or groups?
Any help would be appreciated. I can attach any printouts or configuration files if that would help...
