Microsoft Word will read .wps files, but only if you have installed
the required converter on the system that has Word. You can get this at
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/wp6rtf.aspx .
But remember that conversion problems such as this are always much
more easily and effectively handled at the sending end rather than
the receiving end. When you need to take a Works word processor
document to a system that you know has Word but not Works installed,
save the file from Works as a Word (.doc) file and take that instead.
So someone gave me this site to go to and download open office but i
am a little confused because when i pushed download it down loaded
the open installation files so i am very confused.
I can't be sure what you were expecting here. OpenOffice is an
office suite - as are Works and Microsoft Office (including Word) -
and it has the advantages (at least!) of being better that Works and
cheaper than Microsoft Office. So you could (I'd say "should"!)
install and use OpenOffice instead of Works. But note that
OpenOffice's default format for text documents can also not be read
by Word, so you would still need to save your documents in Word
format or perhaps export them as PDF files when you needed to
transfer them to systems that have only Word.
I trust this helps.
