That's pretty odd. The only other thing that I can think of is perhaps
running a registry cleaner (I recommend Ccleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/) and the MS cleaner:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/EN-US/
just to make sure that all earlier install registry items are cleaned
out first.

I'm sure that you've already run AV scans, Spybot, etc., so during your
install do you have any anti-virus programs running? If so, you might
want to disconnect from the internet, turn off the AV programs, try the
install then see if it still occurs. Note: Be sure to turn on your AV's
before you reconnect to the internet :-)
