I have found it is very difficult and frustrating to draw a line that is exactly vertical or horizontal. (i.e. without a stairstep) The program allows one to lock a line in at 45 degrees but not at 0 or 90 degrees.

This is actually not true: there are many ways of getting a line in Draw to be accurately horizontal or vertical:

o The "Line (45 degrees)" button within Lines and Arrows in the Drawing toolbar will set lines at any multiple of 45 degrees. In other words it is equally useful for locking vertical or horizontal lines as those actually at 45 degrees.

o If you draw a line some other way, first select it and then go to Format | Position and Size... | Rotation (or right-click | Position and Size... | Rotation). Under "Rotation angle", you can set the angle to 0, 90, 270, or whatever. Once you have set this, you can drag the line around (by its middle, not its ends) without the angle changing.

o Simplest of all, just use the Line button in the Drawing toolbar to draw a line freehand. But hold down the Shift key whilst you drag to create the line: this restricts the angle to multiples of 45 degrees as in the first case above.

There may be other tricks ...

I trust this helps.
